Indore: A ‘fact-finding team’ of 35 sadhus watched the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘PK’ in Indore on Sunday and threatened to launch violent protests if the MP government and the censor board did not take steps to stop what they said was the ridiculing of Hindu deities in the movie.

The sadhus led by a senior guru popularly known as ‘Computer Baba’ walked into a multiplex at the Treasure Island mall chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to watch an afternoon show. They left the hall fuming after watching the film.

“The movie has deliberately tried to ridicule Hindus. It has made (a) mockery of Hindu religion,” said Computer Baba. “We will (meet) the state chief minister and submit a memorandum asking him to stop (the) screening of the film in the state and in two days’ time will decide (on) the shape of our agitation. We can go (to) any extent.”

The movie, in which Khan plays an alien who finds the custodians of various faiths dividing the society, has triggered protests, particularly from Hindu religious leaders in various parts of India.

Computer Baba’s view was supported by Rameshanand Maharaj, who said that the film projected Hindu deities as ‘comedian.’ However, one of the members of the fact finding team, Swami Navinand, blamed the film’s director Rajkumar Hirani for the controversy.

“Aamir is a good man. He is not to be blamed for this. The entire blame lies on the director. He did not treat all religions at par and targeted Hindus only,” said the swami.

Sources in the administration said the religious leaders and sadhus had approached them for a screening of the movie after the buzz in the media about reports of “Hindu deities being ridiculed”.

Swami Navinand, however, said the district administration did not arrange tickets for them.

Before entering the hall the sadhus were served glasses of juice but they refused anything except water. They sat patiently for three hours without showing emotions, said a person who was sitting next to them.

Outside the hall, the district administration had deployed a posse of policemen to prevent any untoward incident.
