Anti-sexual harassment circular issued to ensure safety of women at workplaces.

PATNA, December 30: Charges of sexual exploitation by a woman DSP against Kaimur SP surfaced the day general administration department issued a circular to all the heads of the department asking them to take effective steps against sexual exploitation at workplace and also form complaints redressal committees.

The circular has been issued under the Sexual Exploitation (prevention, protection and redressal) at Workplaces Act 2013. The directive issued to the HoDs, divisional commissioners, DMs, etc, asks them to take effective steps to prevent sexual exploitation of women at workplace and take action against the persons charged with offences under the provisions of the Act.

The directive says no officer should make direct or indirect promise to give advantage or to cause disadvantage in the services to the women, no threat should be extended to women employees and no adverse working atmosphere should be created against the women employees by their superiors.

According to the GAD directives, internal grievances redressal committees headed by a senior woman employee/officer and comprising two other staff and one representative of a recognized NGO in the area should be set up at every office to look into the complaints of sexual harassments/exploitation at workplace.
