Noida : A lawyer was gunned down allegedly by his clients in Behlolpur village of Noida on Friday evening. Police said the motive appeared to be the lawyer’s failure in obtaining an order in his clients’ favour in an ongoing land dispute that was being heard at the Gautam Budh Nagar district court.
The lawyer, Bhima Yadav (45), had been appearing in the case for four years. Police said six arrests were made in the case recently and Yadav had taken a fee from his client to get them bail. “But he did not manage to get bail for everyone. This seems to have made his client angry,” an officer said.
An FIR has been lodged against two of Yadav’s clients, both residents of Sarfabad village, Noida. Police said no arrest has been made so far.
According to police, Yadav was in his residence in Behlolpur when the two assailants arrived on a motorcycle. “They rushed inside and shot Yadav at close range ,” the officer said.
Yadav was taken to Fortis Hospital in Noida, where he was declared brought dead. SSP Preetinder Singh said the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. “Yadav’s son was tending to cattle at the time of the incident. He heard his father talking to the two assailants before being gunned down,” Singh said.
