Pune: In a jewellery heist at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon, unidentified suspects struck at a showroom in upmarket Koregaon Park area and made away with diamond jewellery worth Rs 1.4 crore. Among the four suspects was a woman and their video grabs have been circulated by the police for information.
According to information from Koregaon Park police station, the robbery took place around 4.30 pm at PMJ House, the jewellery showroom.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Sudhakar Pathare said, “We have CCTV footage from security cameras in the showroom. A man and a woman first entered the showroom. They were well dressed. The two walked to a desk and wanted to see some ornaments. They can be seen looking at some ornaments. Sometime later, two men got out from a car and walked into the shop. They walked to the same desk and one of them took out a gun. They threatened the staffers to hand over the ornaments to them.”
Police said the suspects filled the ornaments in a bag and fled in the car. The manager of the shop immediately called police control room and a team from Koregaon Park rushed to the spot.
DCP Pathare, “We immediately began a probe. We found the Maruti 800 car abandoned by the suspects on Mangaldas Road. It is a stolen car and a complaint has been registered at Mundhwa police station.” Sunit Kishor Sharma, a staffer at the shop, registered a robbery case at Koregaon Park police station. Police said the suspects were speaking Hindi and English.
Koregaon Park police have started investigation into the case and teams are working on clues including CCTV footage. Police have released video grabs of suspects and appealed to people to inform the police control room dialing 100 if they had any information on the suspects.
Police said there was no security guard outside the shop when the robbery took place. The showroom is located on lane number six, and the Koregaon Park police station is located on lane four.
