Chennai: A 19-year-old engineering college student lodged a complaint with the city police on Monday night that a man posing as a policeman had raped her.

In her complaint, she claimed that while walking from the beach to East Coast Road near Akkarai with her boyfriend, she was stopped by a man wearing khaki pants and white shirt on a bike.

The ‘policeman’ told her that her parents were waiting at Semmanchery police station and forced her to get on his bike, but took her to a secluded house where she was raped and dropped back, she said in the complaint.

The girl studying in a private engineering college in Gowriwakkam was in the beach in the evening with her college mate. “The man stopped us at Sunrise avenue – ECR junction. He took our identity cards and told me that my parents were waiting at the Semmanchery police station. I was asked to get on his bike.

My friend was asked to follow. But instead of taking me to the station, he took me to a house where he raped me after switching off my mobile phone. He dropped me back and returned my phone and identity cards,” she said in the complaint. She then reached Semmanchery police station where her boyfriend was waiting to lodge a complaint.

The case, which was transferred to Neelankarai because of the place of occurrence, as per the girl’s version, happens to be under that police limit. The police said the girl has been sent for a medical check to confirm her claim of sexual assault. “A case of rape has been registered based on her complaint,” the Neelankarai police said.
