He was rushed to a health centre at Bada Melhera but was declared brought dead by doctors.

On Wednesday evening, Ram Prasad Lodhi’s sister took her nephew Krishna to the agriculture field. While she was fetching vegetables, the child slipped into the empty borewell at Dammu Adivasi’s field in the neighbourhood. The borewell had been left open after failed boring at a depth of 100 feet.

When Lodhi’s sister returned, she heard her nephew crying in the pit dug for the borewell. She informed other family members and villagers who in turn informed the police.

The police reached the spot with an administrative team and a massive rescue operation with the help of four JCB machines and poclain was launched.

Once it was discovered that the child was stuck 18-20 feet below ground level, a medical team started supplying oygen through a pipe. However, doctors were worried about the fact that the child’s movements were not detected after Wednesday midnight and their worst fears came true.

During the rescue operation, a parallel large hole was being dug at some distance from the borewell but a huge rock crater obstructed the work. As dynamite could not have been used, efforts began to break the rock with hand tools and light machinery drill. Meanwhile, Army team with its engineer corps from Nowgawh and Sagar also reached the spot and took command of the operation since Thursday afternoon. However, the child could not be saved.
