Bhopal: Investigating authorities have traced the whereabouts of the mother a newborn girl who was found in a garbage can in Bhopal on Sunday night. The police say prima facie it seems the mother dumped her newborn child.
CCTV footage revealed that the newborn baby was dumped into the garbage can by a woman who had covered her face. They say that the young woman threw her baby to escape humiliation and social stigma. She delivered the child on Sunday and abandoned her few hours later.
The woman has been detained and investigating officials have said that she was impregnated by her lover who cheated her on the pretext of marriage. She is a resident of Chindwada but moved to Bhopal last month. She had taken shelter at her sister’s house in Bhopal.
Sources have revealed that the woman threw the newborn girl at a garbage dump adjacent to Deepshikha School and south admission at a nearby hospital stating that she was seriously ill.
A security guard who stays on the premises of the school heard the baby’s screams and raised an alarm. He said, “I spotted the girl crying in pain. It was quite cold and ants were crawling on her body. They were eating away her flesh.”
She was rushed to the hospital and her condition is stated to be stable now.
