The Delhi Police arrested a 28-year-old loader, who works at the Indira Gandhi International airport, for allegedly molesting a woman passenger at the airport late on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Shravan Kumar who was in an inebriated condition when he molested the passenger. He was caught by bystanders and beaten up before being handed over to the police. The victim also alleged that the police harassed her when she approached them with her complaint.

“When I reached the airport, a man roaming in front of the arrival hall abused me and molested me. Police didn’t react swiftly, but with the help of other passengers, the accused was arrested. He also misbehaved with me in front of the cops. Police also harassed me while registering the complaint,” the alleged victim said.

“The victim landed at the Delhi airport from Dubai on an Indigo flight. As she was waiting outside Terminal-3 for her brother to pick her up, the accused, who was standing across the road started abusing her,” a senior police officer said. The victim caught hold of him and raised an alarm. Passengers came to her rescue and thrashed the accused, the officer added.

On being informed, police personnel deployed at the nearby booth reached the spot and took the accused into custody. A medical examination of the accused revealed that he was in an inebriated state.

“A case under section 354 (molestation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) was registered. Kumar, who works as a loader with a ground handling company was produced before a local court on Friday that sent him to judicial custody,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) M.I. Haider.
