Bhopal: With reports of one more suicide on sunday, 11 people, including a 12-year-old boy and seven women, have ended their lives in the state capital in last six days, a police official said.
Pramod Jatav (25), a resident of Navi Bagh area, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday, Nishatpura police station spokesman said today.
“No suicide note was recovered from the spot and we are investigating the reason behind the suicide,” he added.
Two suicides were reported yesterday while three each took place on December 1 and December 4, the officer said.
Reasons behind the suicides ranged from depression, scolding by parents, family discord, disease and stressful life.
Naresh Raikwar (30), an auto-rickshaw driver, allegedly ended his life by hanging himself under TT Nagar police station area yesterday.
Though the exact reason behind the suicide was not known but police suspect that family discord due to his drinking habit was the main cause.
Similarly, Mahima Simon (16) took the extreme step on December 5, which was reported yesterday.
The week started with three students committing suicides on December 1. On December 4, three persons ended their lives, of them, 12-year-old Dipak, had hanged himself.
The boy in his suicide note, blamed his elder brother for getting him chided from parents over some issue as the reason for him taking extreme step.
Earlier, Jabalpur gained infamy for the highest number of suicides in the country.
Jabalpur had become infamous for the highest suicides in the country in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, Jabalpur Superintendent of Police Harinarayanachari Mishra told PTI.
“After we opened the country’s first helpline to fight out suicidal tendency last year and number of such cases dipped drastically. We pursued nearly 50 to 60 people not to take the extreme step at the eleventh hour. It proper counselling is given in that crucial time, it works,” he added.
