Faridabad (Har):  Acting against her own family members, a 15-year-old girl called police from her wedding pandal who later stopped the marriage, in Jain Dharmashala of Ballabhgarh in this district of Haryana.

The class-5 student rang the ‘100’ number when she reached the pandal last night, women police cell in charge Hema Kaushik said today.
The groom was also underage and the family members of both, the girl and the boy, used to work as labourers, Kaushik said.

According to Kaushik, the girl said she followed her teacher’s words that child marriage is a crime. She wants to complete her study, Kaushik said.

As per law, the marriage of a boy below the age of 21 years and that of a girl under 18 years is a crime which attracts imprisonment of two years or a fine of Rs one lakh or both under the Prevention of Child Marriage Act, 2006.

However, in this particular case, police will make aware of the law to the family members of both the side as fathers of both, the girl and the boy, had passed away earlier, Kaushik said.
