10 facts to know about the sensational Aarushi Murder case

New Delhi: The Noida double murder case that took place in 2008 refers to the murder of 14-year-old girl Aarushi Talwar and the 45-year-old servant Hemraj who was a domestic help employed by her  parents, in Noida, India. The two of them were killed on the night of 15th –16th May 2008 at Aarushi’s home.

This double murder case provoked public and aroused their interest like a thriller. This mysterious murder case had received heavy media coverage too. The astounding media coverage that included scandalous accusations against Aarushi and was condemned by many as a trial by media.

The dentist couple Nupur and Rajesh Talwar has been accused of murdering their only daughter, Aarushi, and their servant, Hemraj.

Here we are presenting you the10 big facts based on this story:

1) In May 2008, Aarushi Talwar was found dead in her parent’s home, few days after her 14th birthday. At first, Hemraj their domestic help, who lived in their flat in Delhi with the family, was considered as the main suspect by the Talwars’ but a few hours later, his dead body was also found on the roof of the same flat.

2) The case was handled by the Noida Police in the initial period that had made an arrest of Aarushi’s father, Rajesh, for the twin murders.

3) This murder case could not be solved by the Noida police and was even mishandled on several fronts based on their investigation.  The police team handling the case alleged that Nupur and Rajesh Talwar were of questionable character; they even presented several allegations about Aarushi that had violated basic legal protection offered to children at press conference. Its not that media was not allowed. Media had got access to the crime scene before all evidence had been collected.

4) When Aarushi’s parents requested to forward this case to the CBI, it was handed to them for further investigation.

5) Till now the police team hasn’t been able to find the murder weapon. Moreover, even the cellphones of Hemraj and Aarushi that could have given important data to the police was not found that could have provided important details about their last few hours alive.

Rajesh  Talwar, Aarushi’s  father was released from jail after three months of the murder in July 2008 after the CBI said it had no evidence against him.

6)  Then, in 2010, the CBI arrested four more men who worked as domestic helpers either for the Talwars or for their friends. These people were made to go through narco-analysis test but when nothing was found against them they were released after the investigators did not find enough proof to keep them in jail.

7)  Back in December 2010, the CBI told a Ghaziabad court that it wanted to close the case as nothing was seen progressing. The investigators also said that there was no evidence to prove the involvement of anyone in the murders of Hemraj and Aarushi despite the fact that its report said that it suspected Rajesh Talwar was responsible.

8)  After hearing this, the judge said that there was enough circumstantial evidence to initiate the trial of Rajesh and Nupur Talwar. And the judge gave his decision saying that both were now charged with murder and destruction of evidence.

9)  When the judge gave his decision the Talwars asked the Supreme Court to cancel their trial.  They time and again said that there is no proof of their involvement.

10) In January 2014, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar challenged their conviction in High Court in this case.  They did not allow the screening of the “Rahasya” film made on this brutal murder case.  In October, ex-director AP Singh said that the First CBI probe had got ‘loopholes’
