Ghaziabad: A BSP councillor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation was allegedly shot dead by armed assailants outside his house in Ashok Vihar Colony, police said today.

Shaukin Malik (47), BSP councillor from ward number 41 of Ghaziabad, was shot dead late last night while he was sitting outside his house, police said, adding that three named persons in the FIR have been arrested.

According to complaint filed by the deceased brother, at least five car-borne assailants started indiscriminate firing at Malik who succumbed to his injuries on the way to
hospital.

Upon getting the news of Malik’s demise an angry mob of his supporters demanding arrest of the killers gathered on the

Delhi-Saharanpur Road and started pelting stones on vehicles and blocked the traffic.

Vehicular movement was restored only after senior police officials arrived on the spot and convinced the protesting mob of an early action.

Loni police station SHO Gorakh Nath Yadav said that Shakeel, the brother of Shaukin, has lodged an FIR in which he has named Aman, Chotu, Shri Chand, Mahipal and Harendra.

“We have arrested three persons and other two remaining accused will be nabbed soon,” Yadav added.
