RAIPUR: Armed Maoists stormed a television tower of public broadcaster Doordarshan , killing 3 security personnel and critically injuring their colleague in the wee hours on Sunday at Maranga, just about 10 Kms away from Jagdalpur town in tribal Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

Police said a group of armed rebels unleashed an attack on the security personnel, guarding the tower, killing 3 constables on the spot and injuring another person. Four security personnel were present to guard the television tower at the time when the incident took place and one of them escaped unhurt.

The attack comes a day after the state government extended its ban on Communist Party of India (Maoist) and its six frontal organisations by another one year under the provisions of Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act-2006.

The state had banned these outfits for the first time in 2006 and since it has been extending the ban every year. Besides, the rebels had pasted posters and displayed banners at Geedam in Dantewada district, threatening to eliminate senior Congress leader and former leader of the opposition in the assembly Mahendra Karma, BJP MLA from Dantewada Bhima Mandavi and four others.
