New Delhi: The 28-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a Class XII girl at her residence in Munirka here on Friday allegedly had an affair with her for the past two years. He allegedly planned to kill her as she had refused to continue the relationship because he was less educated than her, the Delhi Police said on Saturday.
Eighteen-year-old Sakshi, a student of Sarvodaya Senior Secondary School, was shot at in her house around 11 a.m. She was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Some locals told the police that they had seen a young man fleeing from the house soon after they heard the gunshot. The suspect was identified as Subhash, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. “He had an affair with the victim for the past two years,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police B.S. Jaiswal.
The accused was traced to Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh and arrested late on Friday night. During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that he first met the girl at a marriage ceremony and both gradually became friends. However, she started avoiding him later as she was more educated than him. On Friday, the accused went to her residence after ascertaining that her parents had left. He bolted the entrance door from inside and confronted the girl.
“When she objected to his presence in her house, he took out a country-made firearm and shot at her. She sustained a bullet injury in the chest,” said Mr. Jaiswal, adding that the accused then fled to Uttar Pradesh. “He is a school dropout and works as a safai karmchari with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in Shahdara. We have seized the weapon of offence, bloodstained clothes of the accused and the mobile phones used in the incident,” said Mr. Jaiswal.
