Students go racing, 1 dead, 8 hurt

ACCIDENT COPY_0_0_2 (1)_4_0Guntur: An engineering student died on the spot and eight others, including the son of a Telugu Desam MLA, were injured in a road accident reportedly after they began racing on National Highway-5. The accident occurred near Timmapuram in Yadlapadu mandal, of Guntur district, on Sunday night.

According to reports, some students of a private engineering college left for Chilakaluripeta on Sunday evening in two sports utility cars. They allegedly began racing each other when  a car hit the one in front, rammed into a tree and over turned. G.  Vijaya Nagendra, 21, of Krishnalanka, Vijayawada, died on the spot due to severe injuries, police said.

Police teams from Yadlapadu and Nadendla rushed to the spot and shifted the survivors S.K. Rahim, Vinay, Kalyan, Ajay, Suman, Sivaram, Phanindra and Kumar to Vijayawada for treatment.

Nagendra, who died in the mishap, was student of Andhra Loyola College and had reportedly attempted suicide over alleged harassment in college.
