KOCHI: The Pathanamthitta chief judicial magistrate court has handed over a petition filed by solar scam-accused Saritha Nair to the local police, seeking the intervention of the court to prevent her nude pictures going viral on WhatsApp and other social networking sites. Saritha has submitted a complaint at the CJM court pleading for registering cases against those responsible for spreading such visuals through digital media networks.

“The act of spreading visuals is degrading to the dignity of a woman and the source should be investigated”, her complaint says. A series of revealing video clippings of Saritha surfaced on WhatsApp on Sunday and went viral in the next few hours with millions of people accessing them.

SARITHA-1Talking to reporters in Pathanamthitta on Wednesday, Saritha claimed that the release of nude pictures was part of a political conspiracy. Hinting at the involvement of some top political leaders behind the release of the pictures, she said more pictures were likely to surface in the coming days.

On a possible source of the pictures, she claimed the police had seized her laptop and mobile phones when she was arrested in connection with the solar scam. Saritha had claimed she had deleted her pictures from her laptop and mobiles, but, she had no knowledge that the deleted items could be retrieved.

The visuals, claiming to be self-clicked videos, show various poses of the solar-accused. Although the authenticity of the pictures was not corroborated, Saritha seemed to have approached the court to prevent further damaging revelations.

For the hi-tech security cell handling such cases, identifying the source of the pictures will not be a major issue as it can be traced back to the phone used for the purpose. But, police officials admit that in most cases such things will be uploaded from countries with very flexible cyber law regulatory systems making it difficult to book the culprits. Police officials also admit that booking all the people who have shared or seen the visuals, will be an impossible task as it would amount to filing cases against lakhs of people.
