Chopper crash investigations begin in Dubai

Civil aviation experts in the UAE have launched a probe to determine the exact cause behind Wednesday’s helicopter crash in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai.

A preliminary report by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) indicated the helicopter had crashed shortly after takeoff with two persons on board, with one suffering from critical injuries. Both injured are receiving treatment at the Rashid Hospital.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, said the cause of the accident is still unknown and a full report would be disclosed to the public following investigations. “GCAA initiated the investigation in the air accident crash that occurred yesterday at Palm Island Jumeirah, Dubai. The helicopter was reported to have crashed shortly after takeoff,” he said.

Al Suwaidi said the GCAA has a “great deal of knowledge and experience” in dealing with air accident investigations.
