Two arrested for trying to smuggle 55 gold biscuits

The suspects M.M and M.A were arrested at Sharjah International Airport while trying to leave the country. The biscuits were hidden in milk powder tins.

The Sharjah Police on Sunday arrested two Bangladeshis for trying to smuggle 55 gold biscuits amounting to over Dh1 million. The total weight of the biscuits is 64.15kg, police said.

The suspects M.M and M.A were arrested at Sharjah International Airport while trying to leave the country. The biscuits were hidden in milk powder tins.

During interrogation the suspects confessed that they were trying to smuggle the gold to avoid paying tax in their country. Based on their confession the police referred them to the Public Prosecution.

The police have once again warned expatriates residing in Sharjah to stop smuggling gold. They also urged residents to cooperate and inform the police on 999, 065632222 or by calling Najeed services on 800151, if they came across any untoward activity.
