The Dubai Police have rolled out new luxury sports cars, bearing the number plate 2020 to express its happiness of Dubai being selected as the host for World Expo 2020. This has been done to maintain the UAE and Dubai’s reputation globally, the Dubai Police said.

The cars — McLaren MP4-12C — are equipped with advanced devices, computers, cameras and specialised number plates. They would be under the supervision of the Tourist Security Department of the Dubai Police. The launch of the cars was attended by South Korea General Consul, members of the Dubai Police Council and a number of government officials.

Dubai’s police chief, Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, said that the police force earlier launched other luxury sports police patrol vehicles. Cars from Aston Martin, Bentley, Mercedes joined the fleet during the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), in addition to the two models of Ferrari which were launched previously. The luxury sports car fleet also has cars from Lamborghini, Nissan, Bugatti, Volkswagen and BMW. The policemen handling these vehicles have been given special training from professional drivers.

“All security patrol cars belong to the Dubai Government and these luxury cars were allocated to the Dubai Police to patrol tourist and heritage areas,” Al Mazeina said.

The newly introduced cars would be stationed near the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai mall, Jumeirah Beach Residence, the Burj Al Arab and in Jumeirah as well as other places frequented by tourists.
