The UAE Federal Supreme Court sentenced an Omani man to jail and imposed a fine finding him guilty of insulting symbols of the UAE.

‘Al Bayan’ reports that the court issued the verdict against 29-year-old Omani, identified as S.M.S., to three-years imprisonment and fined him Dh50,000.

The convict will be deported after serving his jail term in the country.

He is charged with disseminating information with a view to ridicule and damage the reputation of the state symbols. He also ridiculed Emirati martyrs in Yemen, describing them as ‘cowards’ on WhatsApp.
