In the last few years, the emirate has set Guinness World Records in its effort to ring in the New Year.

Tonight, the Downtown Dubai New Year’s Eve gala packed in a dazzling show of fireworks, LED light and laser beam displays.

At the stroke of midnight we witnessed themed-acts, each highlighting an inspiring facet of the emirate, with the crowning glory being the visual-masterpiece of the Burj Khalifa fireworks and light displays.

Six months in the planning and having taken two months to set up, the combined multimedia and fireworks extravaganza will see close to 9 tons of fireworks fired from over 650 positions by more than 100 specialist technicians as it continuously weaves its way from Downtown through the Business Bay Canal, along the Jumeirah coastline leading to the signature Burj Al Arab before climaxing in a 6 min 20 second crescendo at The Beach.

Screens set up to broadcast the event live at Kite Beach, Al Sufouh Beach and JBR.

Sharp at 12.09am at the backdrop of Arabian Gulf, Burj Al Arab, lit up with mesmerising illuminations enthralling revelers.

And then JBR (Jumeirah Beach Road) in all its glory stands out as the showstopper of the night with another string of fireworks at 12.16am.

The spectacular fireworks that took off at the Burj Khalifa has been live streamed with four different camera angles, including an aerial view from three drones, for a 3D effect.

The ‘live’ feeds of the string of choreographed displays were also telecast over major international channels reaching billions of people around the world.

In fact, this year, the people thronging the streets of New York were able to view the Dubai NYE fireworks at Times Square, New York, as it happened in the emirate.
