The credit transfer facility for etisalat’s prepaid customers is no longer free.

The telecoms operator is now charging 5 per cent of the transferred amount as transaction fee. The maximum amount now allowed to transfer is Dh150 per day and Dh1,500 per month. Etisalat had launched the service in 2007 allowing Wasel customers to easily transfer their credit from their mobile accounts to their family and friends. The service was complimentary for Wasel customers. An etisalat customer care representative told Emirates 24|7: “It’s our new policy and the service is now chargeable. It is now secure and you can send the transfer to a Wasel customer anywhere in the world.” Users wishing to transfer need to dial *100*050xxxxxxx*amount# to transfer the amount. A confirmation SMS is sent to the donor account with the credit transfer information. The receiving customer also gets a short message about receiving credit. Earlier this month, etisalat launched the international credit transfer, allowing its Wasel and Ahlan prepaid customers to transfer airtime to any prepaid account globally. The company said subscribers can access international credit transfer by sending an SMS to 1700 with the recipient’s mobile phone number. Users immediately receive a message with instructions to complete the transaction. This is followed by a reply from the recipient’s operator detailing the various denominations available to be transferred to the mobile number. Etisalat customers can conduct up to 10 transactions a month and three a week to any prepaid mobile account in the world with maximum credit transfer of Dh300 per transaction and Dh500 a month.
