Motorists warned to be cautious as rain hits UAE

The country is expected to see a significant drop in temperature, with chance of further rain fall, and a probability of fog over the coast.

Dubai – Moderate to light rain lashed Dubai and other parts of UAE on Monday.

The National Center for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has forecast drop in temperatures along with rain in some parts of the country.

NCMS forecasts rainfall over parts of the country with bouts of thunder in the north by day. Also expected is a significant drop in temperatures, with the sea transitioning from rough to very rough in Arabian Gulf, and moderate to rough in Oman Sea.

A chance of rain, specifically in the north during the day is foreseen on Tuesday, January 20, and the sea rough in Arabian Gulf, and rough to moderate in Oman Sea.

Ras Al Khaimah – As moderate to heavy rains lashed different parts of Ras Al Khaimah on Sunday, the police here have urged motorists to be cautious while driving due to the unstable weather.

According to a senior police officer, speeding and reckless driving is “very dangerous” on wet and slippery roads and may lead to serious traffic accidents and casualties.

Colonel Ahmed Abdurrahman Al Bagham, Acting Director-General of Central Operations Room, RAK Police, said more traffic patrols have been deployed on the highways and internal roads of the emirate to assist motorists. “The visibility on the roads of the emirate is low due to dense fog and rains, particularly in the late and early hours of the day.”

All motorists need to reduce speed, leave adequate space between vehicles and avoid overtaking, he advised. “Drivers are advised to avoid mountainous areas; stay away from the valleys where rainwater accumulates; and not go fishing, swimming or surfing in the rough sea.”

Power outage

Meanwhile, the showers, accompanied by lightning, thunder and strong winds, flooded the main roads and mountainous valleys of the emirate, resulting in power outages in some areas.

Ahmad Al Hammadi, Director of the RAK Public Works and Services department, said they deployed more tankers for clearing out accumulated water in low-lying areas.

The department, he said, has received many complaints from the public about accumulated rainwater at their houses.

The lowest temperature recorded over in the country this morning was 8.1 in Jabal Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 6.45am.

Earlier, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) released the weather forecast for the upcoming days which predicted a probability of fog over the coast in specific, with light rain fall by night on Sunday.
