A Dubai-based developer has signed an agreement with Drydocks World, one of the largest shipyards in Middle East, which will pave way to start construction on the island of Great Britain in ‘The World’ project in Dubai, which will include a wedding venue.
Drydocks World will provide Q Group, the developer of the Great Britain islands, with a complete range of offshore marine and operational management solutions which includes designing, engineering and building total marine-based solutions including the utility solutions.
Q Group will be unveiling plans for a luxury resort, private villas and water villas, hotel serviced apartments, an event and wedding venue, offshore restaurants, and unique water-based experiences.
No details were given on the project and the wedding venue. Private wedding functions have been held previously on the Lebanon island on The World, which houses a resort.
Besides, Link Global Group is building Moghul Gardens, which will be home to Taj Arabia, a replica of India’s Taj Mahal that is billed as a “wedding destination” in Dubai.
Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman, Drydocks World, said, “We are working with Q Group to develop a resort destination which will be a stand out tourist attraction in its own right, and will show investors and other developers that The World project is ‘very much alive and moving forward’. Our specialized DDW Global Offshore Services will provide total offshore solutions.”

In April, Q Group signed an agreement with Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to provide water transport to visitors to the island.
The World project is nine-kilometres wide and seven kilometres long. It covers an area of 931 hectares and will add 232km to Dubai’s natural 67km of beachfront. The islands range from 150,000 to 450,000 square feet in size.
According to Nakheel’s website, The World has five different types of island community: Estate Islands, Mid Density, High Density, Commercial and Transportation, and Resort Islands.
The islands were initially sold by invitation only and were priced in the range of $20 million (Dh73.4m) to $50 million
