14 Indians in WEF’s Young Global Leaders class of 2014

New Delhi: As many as 14 Indians, including Flipkart’s Sachin Bansal and noted film director Farhan Akhtar, have made it to the list of over 200 young global leaders recognised by the World Economic Forum. Out of the 214 Young Global Leaders (YGLs) who were honoured for leadership and service to society, 109 are women.

This year’s YGLs, came from 66 countries across 7 regions and equally represent the public and private sector and belong to professions including academia, arts and culture, civil society, government, media and not-for-profit organisations.

“The YGL Community assembles the world’s most outstanding next-generation leaders who have a proven record of extraordinary achievement and helps them further develop in their leadership journey,” WEF Managing Director and Head of New Champions David Aikman said.

There were 17 young global leaders in South Asia, out of which 14 were from India.

Besides Flipkart’s Bansal and Farhan Akhtar the individuals who represented India in the list include Author and Journalist Pallavi S Aiyar; Tata Starbucks CEO Avani Davda and Mohit Joshi VP and Head, Financial Services and Insurance Unit, Europe Infosys. The YGL Class of 2014 includes 49 individuals from East Asia, 46 from Europe, 17 from Latin America, 18 from the Middle East and North Africa, 48 from North America, 17 from South Asia and 19 from sub-Saharan Africa.

Other Indians in the list include, Roshni Nadar Malhotra ED and CEO HCL Corporation; Vishwarupe Narain Country Head/ Texas Pacific Group; Nandini Piramal ED and Head of HR Piramal Enterprises; Rishad Premji Chief Strategy Officer, IT Business Wipro Ltd; Anoop Ratnaker Rao COO Naandi Foundation; Chiki Sarkar CEO Penguin Random House India; Parmesh Shahani Head, Innovation Lab Godrej Industries; Anurag Thakur President/Bharatiya Janata Party; and Ratheesan Yoganathan Co-Founder and Group Chairman Lebara Group.

“Being part of the YGL community is a transformational experience, where leaders turn their personal success into global significance and positive impact in their countries, industries and areas of expertise,” Aikman added.
