Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir talks about the biopic on her brother and how Aishwarya played her to perfection.

Ahead of the release of Sarbjit, the biopic on her brother Sarabjit Singh, Dalbir Kaur (played by Aishwarya Rai in the film), says, “My brother was a victim of our country’s delay as well. Had the Indian government worked more seriously, my brother would have been alive today.”

Sarabjit, a farmer from Punjab, had been sentenced to death in Pakistan on terrorism charges, but before the sentence could be carried out, he was attacked by his inmates in a Lahore jail and died six days later.

Praising Omang Kumar, the director of the biopic, Dalbir says, “Omang had invited me to Mumbai and we discussed the script. He took the insights of our lives, I am sure that the film will portray reality effectively.”

Talking about Randeep Hooda, who plays her brother, she says, “When I saw the scenes in the Pakistan jail I thought that it was Sarabjit himself. Randeep’s efforts will pay off.”

She also adds that when she saw Aishwarya in the film, she thought that the actress was the perfect choice to play her. “She has performed the scenes brilliantly. The angry confrontations gave me goosebumps. I never thought that Aishwarya could be so dabang like me,” says Dalbir.

She adds, “She learnt Punjabi for the character. The brother-sister scenes were canned superbly only because of Aishwarya. I am sure Sarbjit will rekindle the fire in audiences, especially in those who are facing such problems.”
