Mumbai: Salman Khan has just beaten friend and colleague Shah Rukh Khan and become the top celebrity of 2014 in a list by Forbes India. The ‘Dabangg’ actor has had two big releases in 2014 – ‘Jai Ho’ and ‘Kick’ and both have faired well at the Box Office which has made this Khan bag the top spot in the Forbes list.
Salman Khan, has topped the charts, both in terms of revenues and fame – a first for a Forbes India celebrity list topper. Though controversy and court cases continue to be dominant in the actor’s life, his clout has only continued to grow with his box office hits, TV appearances and his charitable trust ‘Being Human’.
On the second position is Amitabh Bachchan. No other 70 year old actor has been able to reinvent his career the way Bachchan has. The superstar has had a busy year with films and various endorsements and social causes keeping his calendar full. The actor has always tried to connect with the the youth and his 12 million Twitter followers is a testimony to that.
While Shah Rukh Khan has had only one major release ‘Happy New Year’ at the end of the year, he has claimed the third spot in the list. The actor, who had topped the Forbes India celebrity list the last two years, missed out on the top spot this year owing to a late release. The list was compiled considering the individual performance of celebrities between October 2013 and September 2014. With 22 such deals in hand, he has endorsed the highest number of brands this year. On the fame count, however, he could only garner a No 7 costing him the top slot.
Akshay Kumar finds a place in the fifth position. The ‘Khiladi’ actor has steadily grown as an actor with each year and has cemented his position in the top league of actors in Bollywood over the years. The popular actor is perhaps the only actor, other than the Khans, who has strong fan following.
The perfectionist Aamir Khan features on the seventh spot on the list. The actor’s big release of the year ‘PK’ is scheduled to release end of this year and he has been busy with his show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ for most part of the year. Last year his only release ‘Dhoom 3’ broke all records at the Box Office and earned more than Rs 200 crores.
The regining queen of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone is the only woman on the Top 10 list this year. Last year it was Katrina Kaif who had featured on the same list. With the string of blockbusters tucked neatly under her belt, Padukone has cemented her position in the top spot. She has been having a great run at the movies since ‘Cocktail’ released in 2012, and by the looks of it, there is no stopping her now. She holds the eight position on the list.
On the ninth position is actor Hrithik Roshan. The actor has had two very successful films in the recent past which has ensured that he remains in the top league of actors. ‘Krrish 3’ and ‘Bang Bang’ have both fared well at the Box Office reiterating once again the star quality that Hrithik Roshan has, no one else has. The actor, though, has had a tough personal year with his 13 year long relationship with wife Suzanne Roshan ending and the couple getting divorced.
