New Delhi, Aug. 6 — In what could be a bonanza for domestic air travellers, Jet Airways, the country’s second largest airline by passengers carried, has slashed ticket prices by more than half.

The airline has put seven lakh tickets on sale, bookings for which have to be made from August 3-9 for travel from August 10 onwards.

The one-way economy fares are priced in three slabs for Rs. 1,777, R2,777 and Rs. 3,777 for short, medium-long and long distance flights respectively.

Fuel surcharge would be part of the ticket cost but the passenger would have to pay the applicable taxes.

The tickets would be non-refundable and a date change would be permitted at a charge of R1200 per sector.

“The move will stimulate the market in the lean season when airlines find it hard to fill the aircraft. Other airlines would be forced to follow suit,” said Rajji Rai, advisor to the Travel Agents Association of India.

Market leader IndiGo had last month slashed fares on tickets booked three months in advance while Air India has come up with promotion fares starting R2530 on advance bookings.
