Mangalore; MLA J. Krishna Palemar has denied allegation that he violated the election code of conduct by distributing T-shirts and shoes to inmates of Mangalore District Prison.

Mr. Palemar told that he had gone to the prison on March 22 to meet a few persons arrested in connection with the home stay attack case. “I had gone to meet them as there was problem for an arrested person in writing examination.” Mr. Palemar said he spoke to a few of the arrested persons for about five minutes. “I met in the same way as others do and I did not go inside,” he said, and added that there was no distribution of T-shirts and shoes as alleged in a complaint filed before the Deputy Commissioner.

Violations

The Election Cell in the Officer of the Deputy Commissioner has so far received seven complaints of violations of model code of conduct. Follow-up action has been taken in connection with six complaints, an official from the Cell said.

Meanwhile, the District Media Certifying and Monitoring Committee is looking into two complaints against media. Mr. Palemar filed a complaint against a Kannada daily alleging it published reports maligning his image. Another complaint was related to a press conference by Mangalore Urban Development Authority Chairman S. Ramesh on March 23.
