Arab unity need of the hour

OmanDOHA — The Arab Summit is being held at a time the region is witnessing extraordinary circumstances which have left negative impact on their economies and social integrity. This was stated by His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, on his arrival in Doha. On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, HH Sayyid Fahd is attending the 24th Arab Summit which begins here today.

“The Sultanate of Oman, while taking part at the 24th ordinary Arab Summit Conference in Qatar hopes that the meeting among brothers will come out with positive steps that lead to a joint vision which takes us to the future so that we can achieve more progress, security and stability for the Arab peoples,” he added. He said that it is a great honour to take part in this conference on behalf of His Majesty the Sultan.

HH Sayyid Fahd also said: “Having such political, economic, social and security challenges before us, there is an urgent need for us to evaluate joint Arab action and make a compromise in trends so that Arab countries can maintain their integrity and develop their resources to ensure decent living for coming generations.

“While following with interest all the developments at the regional and international arenas, His Majesty the Sultan wishes that the efforts of the Arab leaders and their representatives will succeed and that the decisions the conference may reach, will contribute in uniting the Arabs, enhance stability in the region and achieve welfare of the people in the region.

“The Sultanate of Oman, is happy that this summit is taking place in Doha, appeals to Allah to grant the Qatari brotherly people more growth and prosperity under the leadership of Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Emir of Qatar.” Earlier, HH Sayyid Fahd arrived in Doha. Emir of Qatar and Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, Heir Apparent led the welcoming party. HH Sayyid Fahd was also received by Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad al Thani, Chief of the Emiri Diwan, Mohammed bin Nasir al Wahaibi, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Qatar, Abdullah bin Mohammed al Khatir, Ambassador of Qatar to the Sultanate and members of the Omani Embassy.
HH Sayyid Fahd is accompanied by an official delegation including Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, and Dr Fouad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. — ONA
