Mangalore,April.25th: Mangalore Cycling Club (MACC), in association with Audax Club Parisien (ACP) and Audax India Randonneurs (AIR), organised the second Brevet event of the MACC Brevet 2016 Calendar, on 24th April 2016. Aptly themed ‘MACC Nethravathi 200km Brevet’, this event took riders on a scenic & magnificent route along the Nethravathi & Kumaradhara rivers, traversing a rolling terrain through villages, thick forests, paddy fields, arecanut & rubber farms, touching the base of Western Ghats at Kukke Subrahmanya.

The event was flagged off at 5.00am, from Taj Cycles Kankanady. 16 cyclists started the ride, with different kind of bikes like an old classic fixie, MTB, Hybrid and road bikes. Riders and their bikes were equiped with the necessary safety equipment like head & tail lamps, reflective jackets, and requisite accessories including hand pumps, puncture kit etc. Riders were dressed in colourful cycling attire, carrying loads of water bottles to brace the heat, some covering their entire body, some using sunscreen lotions and others loading their back pockets with jaggery, chikki, oranges and fruits.

As the time progressed, it was the hot summer heat that took over, sucking energy out of most of the riders. What started as 30kmph reduced to 15kmph by the time it was 11.30am. However, the tough ones carried on, but others changed their strategy by resting, avoiding hot sun and pouring water. The volunteers kept cheering and motivating the riders.

At the end of the brevet, out of 16 riders who started, 14 riders completed the event within the cutoff time. Mr. P. A. Mohammad, Mr. Shyamprasad Nayak, Mr. Sarvesh Samaga & Mr. Ashok Lobo were amongst the first few to cross the finish line. Also noteworthy were a group of 7 cyclists from Manipal University who completed the brevet, led by their mentor Mr. SS Shameem Shaikh, all of whom rode an additional 120 km all the way from Manipal and back.

Team MACC, along with AIR & ACP, congratulates all Randonneurs for taking part and completing the Nethravathi 200km Brevet, the volunteers for their support and media for the event coverage.

It is worthwhile to remember the first MACC Karavli 200km Brevet in February 2016 explored the coastal cities of Dakshina Kannada & Udupi districts, along the beach roads of Mangalore, Kaup, & Udupi.
About Brevets
Brevets De Randonneur Mondiaux (BRMs) are rides of fixed distances that are to be completed within specified time limits, having successfully passed through pre-determined time controls. BRMs worldwide are approved and governed by Audax Club Parisien (ACP). All Brevets are conducted in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of ACP. Audax India Randonneurs (AIR) is the organisation that has the sole authority for conducting and overseeing all Brevets de Randonneurs Mondiaux (BRMs) and Audax events in India.

The recognition is equal regardless of finishing order. Each rider, who finishes the event within the cut-off time is awarded with a certificate and a medal directly from ACP. Moreover, the rider will get a step closer to become a Super Randonneure and an opportunity to take part in one of the oldest and most coveted cycling event in the world, the Paris Brest Paris event, held in France once every 4 years.
