Smart City project: Draft proposal almost ready, to be released for publics.

Mangaluru, December 4: By today evening, the draft proposal for the Mangaluru Smart City project will be ready. The draft will be released for the public on Saturday December 5th or Sunday December 6th informed Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Dr H N Gopalkrishna on Friday December 4th.

Dr Gopalkrishna addressed the media at the office of MLC Ivan D’Souza and said, till December 11th the public can give their feedback on mygov.in portal. The final draft will be sent to the union government by December 14th. The draft has to be given in the form of a video in a DVD along with a soft copy and three hard copies, he said.

Dr Gopalkrishna said, feedback for the Smart City project was invited from the public and it received a great response. As many as 46,000 people have given their feedbacks, out of which about 11,000 participated in the first phase and about 35,000 people participated in the second phase. Providing details about the Smart City proposal he said, a set of 43 questions had to be answered by the MCC and a 93-page proposal was being prepared.

During the press meet, MLC Ivan D’Souza gave the suggestions listed below for the Smart City project.

  • Making the people of Mangaluru smart before implementing the Smart City project.
  • Developing the outskirts of the city.
  • Developing the city on the theme of coastal city and developing the port.
  • Creating shopping streets and food streets for the city.
  • Development of city markets.
  • Making the city self-reliant on power requirements through solar overhead units and solar parks.
  • Developing the beaches and organizing cultural programmes.
  • Developing the ponds of the city for 24×7 water supply.
  • Subways and escalators for the public to cross the road.
  • Creating vehicle-free zones in the city.
  • Developing industrial areas as per China model.
  • Utilizing government guest houses and using them efficiently by making them multi-storied.
  • Allotting different timings for the schools and colleges to minimize the traffic.
  • Developing footpaths and bicycle paths.
  • Introducing underground metro trains.
  • Zone offices of MCC for the smart administration.
  • Constructing ring roads around the city.
  • Uniformity for transportation vehicles and various stands for transportation to various places.
  • Including the airport within the city corporation limits.

In the press meet MCC Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal were present among others.
