Kasargod, July 8: The Kasargod fort which is in controversy has been once again brought under the supervision of Revenue Department. In this view, the Revenue Department has erected an instruction board in the fort premises.
Deputy Commissioner of the District H Dinesh, thashildhar and other revenue officials inspected the fort premises. In 2009, the then Deputy Commissioner had passed order stating that the Kasargod fort is government land. The revenue Department had uphold this order, hence the 5.41 acres of fort land falls under the supervision of Revenue Department, depicts the instruction board erected in the fort premises. The revenue department would decide within a couple of days on handing over the fort to the Archaeological Department.
Nearly half of the land of this historical Kasargod fort has been encroached by private parties. This matter came to light some time ago, behind which the involvement of politicians is suspected. Some persons claiming this land to be theirs were paying land taxes at Talangare Village Accountant’s office since 2013. After the mater came to light, the dispute aroused. The political parties have come forward to fight over this matter. Meanwhile, investigations are going on under the leadership of vigilance DySP Raghuraman. The youth congress has decided to lay siege to the DC office on Wednesday demanding for a CBI probe, it is gathered.
Encroachment came to light when measures were taken for face lift:
It is gathered, claiming to be the successors of the Kasargod Fort rulers, in 2009, some persons had applied for the tax payment in the concerned Village Accountant’s office. The officials have accepted the tax without checking. Following this, the said land was sold to three persons in three years.
It is learnt, in 2010, the Kerala government had allocated funds for the Forts development. Accordingly, when some months ago, officials moved forward to undertake the works, some people opposed the works claiming the land to be theirs. When this matter came to light, dispute aroused.
This issue was also raised in the Kerala Parliament. Hence the Kerala Government has decided to immediately take over the said land, informed the Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash and assured a thorough investigation on the matter.
