Mangaluru, June 30: Although it is monsoon season, a few wards under the MCC limits are still facing water scarcity, dead mouse traced in water at Pump house, and other issues raised in the MCC general meeting witnessed strong debate and the rage of MCC members.
The meeting was presided over by Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred on Monday, June 29th.
Member Radhakrishna questioned that, even though water supply from ADB was begun in Chilimbi eight months ago, why water is not being supplied yet. Meanwhile, member Rajanish said, if water is not supplied once in two days what would be the condition of the people he questioned.
Member Kavitha Sanil expressed her fury and said, even in rainy season there is no adequate water supply to Mullakadu. Dead mouse has been found in pump house. The water tank has not been covered. When I enquired about this over the phone with the concerned official, he informed that the water tank has been covered. When I personally inspected the spot I observed that the water tank in pump house was not covered. I have brought the photos captured in my cell phone. Since many days, the people of my ward were being supplied with impure water, said Kavitha Sanil.
Responding to this, the mayor directed the concerned officials to take appropriate actions against these issues.
Solid waste Management:
Antony waste Management firm which has taken seven years contract of solid waste management under the MCC jurisdiction is not functioning appropriately, alleged the ruling party members in the meeting.
Premananda Shetty said the garbage collected from the houses is not handled appropriately. Wastes are not collected from the commercial complexes and hotels, they are dumping the wastes in the dustbins. Overall the system is poor, he said.
Vinay Raj asked that whether the soil removed from the drainage is a solid waste? Is it right that it is transported to landfield at Pacchanady.
Responding to this environmental engineer Madhu said, under the MCC solid waste management rule, the soil extracted from the drainages is also considered as solid waste.
