Mangaluru, May 14: Former minister J Krishna Palemar has alleged that the congress government in the state has disappointed the citizens by slashing the powers of gram panchayats.
Addressing the media representatives here on Wednesday May 13th, he said at present the Panchayats have been denied from the authority to grant house construction licences, sanction power connections and issue door numbers.
Even for construction of thatched roof or mud walled house, there is a proposal that the people have to get approval from three different engineers, which is quite absurd. He alleged that the government is exploiting the poor.
Though the government has been claiming that it was offering 30 kgs rice at one rupee per kg, it has now been reduced to 16 kgs. This may be even stopped once the GP elections are over, said Palemar.
Just 15 per cent funds has been released under “Namma Grama Namma Raste” project for the construction of 20 km long road in every assembly constituency limits, also reveals the inefficiency of the state Government, he said.
He urged the citizens to give an appropriate reply to the government during the forthcoming Gram Panchayat elections.
At the pres meet, Zilla Panchayat Member Janardhan Gowda and others were present.
