DC sets deadline for installation of CCTV cameras, urges authorities on implementation of seat belt rule.

Mangaluru, March 18: A road safety committee meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim on Tuesday, March 17th in his office here.

Addressing the meeting, the DC said that similar to other places, the seat belt ought to be made mandatory for four wheeler drivers in Mangaluru and asked the DCP Vishnuvardhan to strictly implement the seat belt rule for four wheeler drivers in the city.

DCP in response said that not wearing seat belts is a punishable offence and in the coming days, the police officials will impose fines on those who violate this rule.

DC A B Ibrahim also asked the RTO officials and the police department to look into the issue of installing doors in buses and ensure that it is implemented soon.

DC also asked the MCC officials about the installation of speed breakers in the city, to which Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Hephsiba Korlapati replied that the MCC has already installed them but is yet to erect sign boards. She further said that bus stops will be constructed in 17 places falling under MCC limits, and informed that the plan would be ready within a week.

The DC ordered the MCC officials to use interlocks for the construction of bus stops.

The DC after receiving complaints from the public’s urged the RTO officials to check measures for seating arrangements in buses for ladies, handicapped and senior citizens. He also directed the officials to give special attention to horns used by the buses.

Erecting CCTV’S:

A month’s dead line was granted by the DC to install CCTVs in all religious places in the district. As the crimes are increasing, CCTVs are helpful for all and also the police officers to nab the culprits sooner, said the DC.

DC Ibrahim ordered to install CCTVs within a month in important places such as KSRTC bus stand, government offices, MESCOM counters, schools and colleges, courts, petrol bunks, malls, theatres, bars and restaurants, all the markets and all the places of worship.

DCP Santhosh Babu said, good resolution CCTVs should be installed to curb untoward incidents.

During the meeting, Assistant DC Sadashiva Prabhu, assistant MCC commissioner Kantharaj and others were also present.
