None of the Indian nationals coming from ebola-hit Liberia and Nigeria through seven different flights, report any suspected case of the deadly infection, authorities at the Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport said.
However, the six passengers of the 112 who were transiting through Delhi to Mumbai on Tuesday morning, were isolated and taken to a government hospital in the national capital for further tests so as to ascertain if they are infected with the Ebola virus, reports said.
Notably, two of the flights carrying 66 passengers from Liberia and 19 passengers from Nigeria landed at the Mumbai airport in the wee hours of Tuesday.
While the first flight from Johannesburg reached at 12.05 am on Tuesday with 20 Indian passengers on board from Liberia, the airport hospital organisation (APHO) cleared all of them after screening at the aircraft’s exit step ladder.
“…none of them were having any symptoms or history of contact with EVD case,” the statement released by CSIA said.
The second flight from Johannesburg touched down at 5.41 am Tuesday with 46 Indian passengers from Liberia and 19 more from Nigeria. All of them were screened and cleared from the checkpoint.
Meanwhile, the civic body worked till late at night to create a provision for isolation wards for suspected Ebola cases in Jogeshwari based Trauma hospital. Dr M Wadiwala, head of peripheral hospitals, said, “If need be, we will utilise three floors in the hospital for this purpose.”
By midnight, the hospital had tightened up its security and cordoned off floors where the isolation wards were situated.
Entry of public was prohibited and only one relative per patient was allowed to enter in the remaining departments.
