The decomposed body of a nine-year-old girl was found in a drain near Marve Road in Malad (West). According to police, the deceased, Afsana Sheikh, had been missing from her home in Malwani since June 19.
The post-mortem report has revealed several stab marks on her body, allegedly caused by an attack with a sharp glass object.
Senior inspector of Malwani police station, Prakash Patil, said, “We found the body on June 26 in a completely decomposed state, and had registered an accidental death report. Her family, which had filed a missing person’s case, identified her from her clothes. They alleged that she had been killed and we conducted a post-mortem that revealed several marks on her neck and body made by sharp glass.”
The SI however, added that it is possible that Afsana had fallen into the drain and had been injured by broken glass bottles. Police registered a murder case on Friday and are investigating the case from both angles.
