There are many potholes on the WEH and near the spot where the accident occurred. Immediately after the mishap, the authorities filled the potholes on the road, claimed an official on the condition of anonymity. The maintenance of the flyover is with J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd as the bridge has been constructed by them. According to the regulations, it is the job of the contractor to maintain the flyover up to five years from the date of its opening.

“After the accident, the deceased was rushed to the Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. We have registered a case of accidental death,” said a police official from Bangur Nagar police station. Meanwhile, Senior Police Inspector S S Dalvi, of the Traffic Department in Goregaon, said, “There are many departments such as PWD and MSRDC that are responsible for maintenance of the roads. As soon as we get a complaint, we notify the authorities responsible for that road. Further maintenance is carried out by them and there is not much we can do after informing them.”

As the bridge is in the defect liability period, it is the job of the contractors to maintain it. We have already told them to fill the potholes at the earliest so that motorists don’t have to face problems.”
