An Indian passenger was detained by the police after he allegedly hit a Chinese flier at the international airport for no reason. The incident took place on Saturday morning when both, the Indian and Chinese national, were at the city side of the arrivals area at T2.

The Indian, Jagjit Singh (36), had arrived from Muscat by flight 9W 539 of Jet Airways (that lands at around 4.25 am). The Chinese passenger Wang Wrijun, had also arrived from Muscat by Oman Air’s flight WY 201 (that lands at around 5.30 am).

An official said, around 7 am, Singh suddenly went to the lady, and struck her on the head. With the help of an airport manager she notified the police. According to senior airport officials present at the spot, the Sahar police registered an NC under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC.

Officials said Singh was very aggressive and so he was handed over to the police. “He even manhandled policemen when they tried to control him,” said an official present at the spot. Singh, who was taken to the police station at around 7.30 am, was sent to Cooper Hospital, as he did not only seem aggressive, but was suspected to be mentally unstable.

Singh’s family resides in Moga district of Punjab. His parents rushed to the Sahar police station after they were informed that he had been admitted to a hospital, and arrived on Saturday night. It has been learnt that Singh, who worked as a carpenter in Oman, was allegedly asked to leave his job, as he is mentally unstable.

“As the Chinese passenger was in a hurry, she wanted the authorities to be notified of the incident, after which she chose to file an NC and Singh was then detained by the Sahar police station,” explained the airport official.
