Zafer-aur-AyazOfficials of the Nehru Nagar police station registered a case against two persons for raping a 16-year-old on two separate occasions and arrested them from their respective residences in Cheetah Camp. Police said accused Zafar Khan (20) and Ayaz Shaikh (25), both friends, had come in contact with the victim through a social networking website.

Shaikh claimed Khan had introduced him to the girl. Khan knew the victim for the last six months, but only through chats. In the last week of April, the girl told Khan that her mobile phone had stopped working and needed repairs. Khan then told her that his friend, Shaikh, runs a mobile shop in Trombay and asked her to meet him there.

The victim met Khan and Shaikh for the first time at the mobile shop. After Shaikh repaired the phone, Khan left with the girl. The two then went to Sapna guesthouse in Navi Mumbai. After their outing, Khan started ignoring the victim. Fed up of Khan’s behaviour, the girl finally decided to confront him after waiting for a month. When she was not able to get through Khan’s number, the girl went to meet Shaikh to check on Khan’s whereabouts.

Officials said Shaikh knew that Khan had dumped her and decided to take advantage of the situation. Under the pretext of taking her to Khan, Shaikh took her to the same guesthouse and blackmailed the girl by saying that he would tell her family about her relationship with Khan.

The incident came to light the next morning when the girl’s parents inquired with her about her last night’s whereabouts. She told them about Khan and Shaikh and the incidents at the guesthouse. The parents immediately approached the Nehru Nagar police station and lodged a compliant against Khan and Shaikh.

Senior Inspector B V Rathode of the Nehru Nagar police station said, “Both the accused have been arrested and have been remanded to five days of police custody. Investigation is on.”
