‘Baghban’ director Ravi Chopra passes away

Filmmaker Ravi Chopra, who suffering from a severe lung ailment since the last few years, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 68 .

Filmmaker Ravi Chopra who was hospitalised in Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital passed away on Wednesday, a family source confirmed. “He passed away on Wednesday at around 3.30 pm. His funeral will most probably will take place tomorrow at around 11,” a source close to Ravi Chopra’s family said.

He is survived by his wife and three children. He belonged to an illustrious Bollywood family, with his father being director and producer B R Chopra and his uncle filmmaker Yash Chopra. Yash Raj scions Aditya and Uday Chopra are Ravi Chopra’s cousins. The ‘Baghban’ director had been reportedly suffering from a severe lung ailment since the last few years.

The 68-year-old has directed movies namely, Zameer (1975), The Burning Train (1980), Mazdoor (1983), Dahleez (1986), Baghban (2003) and Baabul (2006). After his father B.R.Chopra’s demise, Ravi produced two successful movies — Bhoothnath and Bhoothnath Returns — with Amitabh Bachchan. The late director who made the TV epec ‘Mahabharat’, had also made other mythological shows like ‘Vishnu Puran’ and ‘Ma Shakti’.
