Hanumantappa sunk a borewell, but it did not yield water

Sugarcane farmer Hanumantappa Hatti had never in his wildest dreams thought the borewell he drilled on his farm for water would end up being a peril for his six-year-old son, Timmanna.

Mr. Hanumantappa got the borewell drilled about a fortnight ago to irrigate his farm. But the borewell did not yield any water.

According to the father, on Sunday afternoon, his son, who is studying at a local convent school, went to show the new borewell to his cousin. But since the borewell was not closed, he fell in.

“I was completely helpless. I just couldn’t do anything to save my son even though he was screaming for help,” said Mr. Hanumantappa. Now, he is doing nothing else but pray for his safety. Sangawwa, Timmanna’s mother, weeps for her son. The couple have three children — Timmanna, Lakshmi and Aishwarya.

Students of Phoenix English Medium School, where Timmanna studies, offered special prayers for the safe return of their schoolmate.
