Individuals, companies will be held responsible: CM

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said severe action would be taken against individuals and borewell companies who leave unused borewells open.

Speaking to presspersons during a brief stopover at Hubli Airport on his way to Gadag district, Mr. Siddaramaiah referred to the Sulikeri incident and said it was unfortunate that the life of a six-year-old was in danger. He said he had spoken to officials on the issue and the district administration had been directed to issue show-cause notices to all those responsible for the mishap.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said steps would be taken to hold all those failing to seal unused borewells, borewell owners and the company which does the work, responsible for any mishap.

Case to be registered

Bagalkot Staff Correspondent writes:

Northern Range, IGP, Bhaskar Rao, said the police would file a criminal case against Panchayat Development Officer of Sulikeri village, Assistant Executive Engineer of Badami taluk, gram panchayat president, vice-president and members of Sulikeri village panchayat on charges of dereliction of duty. “Strict action would be taken against erring peresons,” he said.
