Bengaluru: In his first interview to a newspaper since the arrest of Mustapha, the Vibgyor School skating instructor who allegedly raped his daughter in a room in the school where she had been locked up, the six year old victim’s father opened up about how he was in two minds over sending his child back to the school where his daughter had been violated.

“We have not really thought about her school, or if she would continue in the same school or not ,” said the father, who said his main focus was to ensure his daughter recovers from the trauma of the rape, and for his family to move on.

“I have not taken a decision on that and once she is okay, both physically and mentally to pursue school, we will think about it. Our family is still to recover from the shock, but our daughter is recuperating from her trauma, both mentally and physically,” the victim’s father said.

He said the family members are slowly coming to terms with the incident. “From a state of shock when we learnt our little one had gone through such an ordeal, my primary focus is now my child’s health and I am looking into all sorts of help and support in the way of counseling and other treatment for her, to get her life back,” the victim’s father told Deccan Chronicle.

The Vibgyor School came in for trenchant criticism from a still embittered father who said no-one from the school had bothered to contact the family.

“We haven’t heard from even one member of school after we lodged the complaint against two teachers of the school. No one from the school called us to even enquire about the health of the child” said the victim’s father.

It’s the police whom the victim’s father wants to thank. While the parents of other students at Vibgyor have been critical of what they saw as ineffective policing, the 6 year old’s father said he was “satisfied.”

“I am satisfied with whatever the police have done so far and I am kept updated on all the developments in the investigations on a day-to-day basis by senior police officials who are in constant touch with me” said the father.

Meanwhile, the police feel that it is vital to question students of Vibgyor School to know more about the rape of a six-year-old, allegedly by a gym instructor, Mustafa, on July 2, but the parents are not comfortable with the police questioning their children.

“We will not summon the students for a formal questioning, but it will be done in a friendly manner. We may do it after the school reopens,” said DCP (Crime) Abhishek Goyal. “We spoke to a few students 10 days ago. We will obtain more details by talking to other students. It will help us establish whether anyone else was involved in the crime,” he said.

Parents of first standard students told Deccan Chronicle that they got calls from the school requesting them to bring their children to the school without mentioning the reason.
