Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj on Saturday described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi talking about corruption as “devil quoting from the scriptures.”
Rahul Gandhi had said the BJP government had set a world record in corruption.
Addressing the election meetings at Shiggaon in Haveri district, and Sirsi in Uttar Kannada district, on behalf of BJP candidates Basavaraj Bommai and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, she said, UPA-led government was itself mired in corruption scandals worth crores of rupees. Rahul Gandhi did not utter a word about these scams.
Congress leaders did not have basic common sense that people who reside in glass houses should not throw stones at others, she charged. “A Rs 70,000 crore scam had taken place during Common Wealth Games, and Rs 1.76 lakh crore scam in allocating spectrum in 2-G. Similarly, Rs 1.86 lakh crore scam happened in allocation of coal fields. A series of corruption scandals had taken place during the tenure of the Congress-led UPA. The Centre had broken its own record in corruption,” she ridiculed.
The Congress which had come to power promising that it would lend a helping ‘hand’ to common people, had ultimately resorted to putting its hand in their pockets. The common people have been left high and dry because of the inefficiency of the Centre in controlling inflation. They have stooped to such low level that they give statements in Parliament that because poor people eat more, prices of essential commodities had increased. This showed how anti-people they were, she said.
“Basavaraj Bommai is like brother to me. He has accomplished in five years on development front, what Congress party could not achieve in 50 years. Give rank to my brother in the coming election”, she added.
