Rain inundates areas, power lines fall

Thursday’s downpour brought down several trees and power lines. Control rooms of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) were flooded with calls.

A release sent on Friday by the power utility said as many as 4,100 complaints were received late on Thursday and early Friday.

After flood water entered Anupama theatre in Majestic area, the morning show of the Kannada film Billion Dollar Baby was cancelled. The water was pumped out by personnel from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Complaints of inundation were received from Vasanth Nagar, Kalyan Nagar, Seshadripuram, Jayanagar, Kodipalya, Muneshwaranagar, Malleswaram and Vijayanagar.

A release said that a total of 42 trees had fallen on power lines, while 22 electricity poles broke due to the rain. An aggregate of the complaints received at the various subdivisions under south zone showed that 14 trees had damaged power lines, while six poles were damaged. Rainwater could be seen stagnant on several roads in the city. Nayandahalli junction near Rajarajeshwarinagar here was full of slush following the heavy rains.
