City students shine in CET

Students from colleges in the city emerged top rankers in the results to the Common Entrance Test (CET) which was announced here on Tuesday.

Girija Agarwal from Narayana PU College, C. V. Raman Nagar, secured the first rank in the medical/dental stream. She clocked an impressive 93.88 per cent, scoring 60 in physics, 48 in chemistry and 59 in biology out of a possible 60 marks in each. “My aim is to pursue MBBS. I wish to become a doctor and help people. One of my goals is to work for a charity,” she said.

Ms. Agarwal said her preferred colleges were the Kasturba Medical College and the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. In engineering, Srinidhi Prabhu, another student of the Narayana PU College, was the top ranker scoring 174 out of 180 marks. He scored a 60 in physics, 58 in mathematics and 56 in chemistry. Ranked first in the B.Tech (Agri) and B.Pharma streams, he has also topped the State in the Joint Entrance Exam (Mains) and wishes to pursue computer science engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

“I expected to be among the top 10, but it feels great to top the State. I am appearing for BITSAT (of BITS Pilani) and waiting for IIT counselling, which will commence from June 20. I hope to get into the top National Institutes of Technology if not IIT Madras. CET will be my third preference,” he said.

Soorya V.K., a student from Mangalore’s Expert PU College topped the B.Tech. course in Food Technology and secured the third rank in medicine and the 13th rank in engineering. But his focus is medicine.

Samhitha Kottamasu from the city’s National Hill View Public School, who appeared for NATA, topped the architecture stream. “I started seriously practising drawing in Class XI. I did not go for any coaching classes,” she said, adding that she was keen on pursuing design and had already secured a seat at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
