Madikeri (Kodagu district): Two workers died on the spot and two others were injured in a mudslide near a building under construction atop a hillock at Mangaladevinagar in Madikeri on Sunday.
Krishna, 34, and Venkatamma, 36, both residents of Mahboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh are the deceased. Venkatesh and Nagabhushan are the injured.
They were digging the earth near a huge housing complex under construction when the earth caved in and the two workers were buried alive in 15-ft deep pit. Venkatesh and Nagabhushan were rescued by other workers. The fire personnel extricated the bodies.
The workers insisted that the contractor should come to the spot before shifting the bodies for post mortem.
They didn’t budge even after MLAs K G Bopaiah, Appachu Ranjan, additioal deputy commissioner H Prasanna to pacify. Finally, the police managed to convince them to shift the bodies.
