BANGALORE: The aggressive social media campaign by the BJP, which contributed to its thumping victory, has got chief minister Siddaramaiah interested in it. He’s expected to open his Twitter account soon.

Sources told TOI here on Wednesday that Siddaramaiah had not taken interest in either having his own website or opted to be on social media such as Twitter, Facebook or WhatsApp. Some of his cabinet colleagues are quite active on these media. After the Lok Sabha results, he asked his secretariat to work out the modalities of going on Twitter.

According to sources, Siddaramaiah decided to opt for it reportedly on the advice of AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh. At the state Congress coordination committee meeting last week, Digvijay is said to have impressed upon him the importance of being active on social media.

The CM’s secretariat is said to have considered going in for a private agency to manage his Twitter account and it may make a presentation to the CM in a day or two. Currently, the CM has an official email id which is managed by his staff.

Siddaramaiah doesn’t have an official website too. The IT/BT department had set up one for him prior to the Lok Sabha elections, but it couldn’t be launched due to some problems.
